logged in online and discovered that all my emails were gone
Solution Problem
Logged onto the cpanel last night and discovered that all my emails were gone?

Answer
According to our mail logs, you (or someone else) logs into your account using pop3. The pop3 protocol by default downloads all the messages from the server while deleting them from there, so that when you then log into webmail online, they will not be there on the server. You can configure pop3 in Outlook or Outlook express to 'leave messages on server. This is done as follows.

1. Go to Outlook Express and click on Tools, then Accounts
2. A list of all your email addresses comes up
3. In the screen section where all the email addresses are listed, please click on the first email address that you want - it should appear selected now
4. Click on Properties, then the Advanced Tab
5. Under Delivery, tick Leave a copy of the email on the server.
6. In the next row you can specify how many days you want to keep it on our mail server before it gets deleted, but if you do not want to be deleted automatically after some time, then leave this blank. Or select delete when deleted from computer. Click OK
7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 for all the email addresses related to the domain

This is generally the setup to use when accessing email via multiple computers as well as webmail. Outlook also supports IMAP protocol.

From our perspective, it looks like you or someone else downloads emails via pop3, which deletes them from the server and that is why you don't see them when you login via webmail.
If you use your palm handheld or other computers to access mail via Mail software you need to configure the setup to leave mail on the server.
